Part 3 will place all of this in the context of the Global\nVision.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The question we\u2019re exploring today is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>If we believe in Oneness, should we\neven be&nbsp;<\/em>noticing&nbsp;<em>differences, much less&nbsp;<\/em>celebrating<em>&nbsp;them?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Context<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a practical matter, the Leadership Council of CSL has\ncreated the Diversity Commission in direct response to a failure to notice\ndifference in the form of marketing materials for the 2011 Gathering in San\nDiego that showed a picture of \u201cus\u201d that included only white people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This raised a variety of concerns regarding how the\norganization sees and seeks to portray itself and how it in turn is being\nperceived. Clearly the decision has been made that we wish to project images of\nourselves that portray diversity and inclusivity; but how does that fit in with\nour belief in Oneness?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Unity is Not Uniformity&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Unity does not mean uniformity<\/em>, Ernest Holmes repeatedly affirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We know that our being all One does not mean we are all\nthe same. We are each unique expressions of the Divine, just as the entire\nmanifest Universe is made up of a multiplicity of expressions of the One. Race, gender, ethnicity, national identity, sexual\norientation, class, physical ability, and religion are all expressions of the\nway we are like SOME people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What Unites&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, cultural expression occurs across the entire\nspectrum of human relationships. Your family of origin has a culture. Centers\nfor Spiritual Living has a culture. Your Center has a culture. Perhaps your\nVision Statement articulates it. In any event, something has knitted you\ntogether and become the water that sustains you as community. The thought then becomes subjectified; it\ngoes into the subconscious mind\u201d (SOM 124L4).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The question for us, then, becomes&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIs our culture reflective of who we\nintend to be in the world?\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does it match our Vision, Mission and\nValues? Who else might need to be here in order for us to fully manifest God\u2019s\nhighest idea of who we are called to be? These questions become particularly\nimportant as we consider how they \u2013 and we \u2013 relate to the Global Vision.
