{"id":608,"date":"2019-10-14T03:35:13","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T03:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diversity.csl.org\/?p=608"},"modified":"2019-10-14T03:35:13","modified_gmt":"2019-10-14T03:35:13","slug":"sunday-morning-most-segregated-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csl.org\/diversity\/sunday-morning-most-segregated-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday Morning Most Segregated Time"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunday morning\nis still the most segregated time in American life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 8 in 10 congregations are made up of one predominant\nracial group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And most churchgoers think\ntheir church is fine the way it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two-thirds of American\nchurchgoers (67 percent) say their church has done enough to become racially\ndiverse.&nbsp; And less than half think their\nchurch should become more diverse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those are among the findings\nof a study of church segregation by Nashville-based LifeWay Research.&nbsp; Researchers surveyed 994 churchgoers\u2014who\nattend worship at least at holidays or more often\u2014about race and the church.&nbsp; They also surveyed 1,000 Americans as well as\n1,000 senior pastors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Churchgoers, researchers\nfound, are lukewarm about diversity.&nbsp; More\nthan half (53 percent) disagree with the statement, \u201cMy church needs to become\nmore ethnically diverse\u201d.&nbsp; Four in 10\nagree.&nbsp; Researchers also found\nchurchgoers who oppose more diversity, do so with gusto (33%).<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Invitation to Action: <\/strong>Celebrate\nthe diversity that exists in your centers.&nbsp;\nEngage in inclusive practices when you have racial and ethnic minorities\nvisit.
