Convention & Retreat News

Tammi Tucker Events Manager

By Tammi Tucker, Events Manager

I hope that you were able to attend the 2013 Asilomar Spiritual Living Retreat; it was an amazing, heart-filled event! We had a beautiful Taize service and Insight Speakers who spoke from the heart and filled the attendees with love and laughter. Our Keynote Speaker, Azim Khamis, inspired all of us as he spoke about the murder of his son and how he used the sorrow of the loss as fuel to teach peace, prosperity, and purpose through the practice of forgiveness. I would also like to recognize Rev. Dr. Susan Hulton, who has run our Kosmic Kids program for 20 years. Thank you so much for the work you have done with the youth of our organization. You are a blessing!

Keep the best of Asilomar with you! Audio and video are available of the general sessions and workshops. Click here to choose which event you would like to purchase and you can download the file directly to your computer, tablet, or other electronic device.

Science of Mind Magazine News

Claudia Abbott, RScPBy Claudia Abbott, RScP, Editor in Chief

We are delighted to receive positive feedback from the field regarding Science of Mind magazine.

Congregants are sharing with me regularly how much they have appreciated Science of Mind magazine now more than at any other time they have subscribed. The daily guides as well as insightful interviews and articles always offer something for the beginner or the expert of Science of Mind ideas and are inspiring and thought provoking. They want to know when our church will be starting a regular study group on the magazine.

Did you know that members who are new to a Centers for Spiritual Living community can receive a free six month subscription to Science of Mind magazine? Just email a list of new members’ names and addresses to Alan Hubbard, the publishing office business administrator, and he will start the subscriptions.

Most of you are aware that the entire Science of Mind magazine can be found online at ScienceOfMind.com. The cost of the online magazine only is a bargain at $9.99, and it is free for print subscribers. The customer number, located on the magazine’s mailing label, allows subscribers to set up an online account. Now subscribers will never need to miss a day with their beloved magazine if the mail is late!

In addition to the entire content of each month’s print issue, the online magazine also offers additional online-only features, media reviews, letters from readers, and audio/visual material that cannot be accessed through the print magazine, such as a guided meditation created and led by Dr. Jean Houston. Magazines archives from October 2010 to the present can also be accessed from the online magazine’s landing page.

Are you receiving the free Science of Mind monthly e-newsletters? These newsletters offer additional multimedia materials, such as a talk from a minister or a song from a New Thought artist, and allow the magazine to respond in a timely fashion to current topics or events. The newsletters are delivered to subscribers’ mailboxes the first and third Tuesday of each month. If members of your community would like to receive the newsletters, they can subscribe at ScienceOfMind.com. Archived newsletters can also be found on the magazine’s home page.

Some of our ministers tell us that they enjoy using the magazine’s themes as inspiration for their monthly talks. The themes for 2014 can be found at scienceofmind.com and accessed on the tool bar by clicking on About Science of Mind and going to the Writer’s Guideline tab.

Here are the themes for the first quarter of 2014:

  • January - A World That Works
  • February - The Heart of Humanity
  • March - Healing Is Revealing
  • April - One with the Universe
