Young Adult Leadership Team Update

The first-ever elected Young Adult Leadership Team met at Asilomar. With representatives from Northern and Southern California as well as Colorado, the team spent time together to both create a strong bond and to begin planning for projects as a leadership group. Along with a number of other young adults, the team participated in some powerful and cutting-edge workshops that dealt with subjects that are highly resonant to our particular age group, such as sex, anger, and lucid dreaming. It was a great week! And while creating that foundation was necessary for the team at Asilomar, we are planning on having a greater presence with the rest of the organization at the convention in February and are looking forward to interacting with and creating connections with all of you!

The group designated three primary goals to be achieved by the first half of this year together:

  1. Increase and up-level multimedia presence and social media outreach,
  2. Organize three regional SEVA or service projects in California and Colorado, and,
  3. Create a venue for young adults to speak at centers across the country, with the goal of at least three young adults giving talks at centers within the next 6 months.

Those goals are guiding the action of the new team, and we could use your help in achieving them! Here’s how:

  1. If you are looking to build a Young Adult program at your center, please visit our website to find the Young Adult Toolkit.  It has everything you need to help your center start a Young Adult Group!
  2. If you know of a young adult in your community who is interested in speaking, please have them contact Evan Dow-Williamson, who is creating a training program for aspiring Young Adult Speakers! Evan can be reached at evan@cslsr.org
  3. “Like” our “CSL Young Adult Movement” Facebook page! This will help us expand our presence and make our presence known in the social network.
  4. Donate! We are all volunteering our time and love to build the young adult program and presence within the organization and the world. Costs for our website, traveling to conferences, and developing programs often come out of our own pockets, so supporting the young adults in this way is greatly appreciated!  To donate, please contact Rev. Keith Cox at koxbh@aol.com

We are all honored, humbled, and excited to be part of the building of the young adult movement for Centers for Spiritual Living. We realize that we are standing on the shoulders of so many who have made the organization what it is today, and we hope to contribute all we can to help open this powerful teaching to more young people and truly create a world that works for everyone.

With Great Love,
The Young Adult Leadership Team: Ashley Wines, John Tice, Azure Wheelus-Dannels, Kristine Anderson, David Lapedis, Evan Dow-Williamson, Melanie Teixera, Michael Hiraoka, and Rev. Keith Cox, our fearless leader.
