Spiritual Leader

Dr. Kenn GordonBy Rev. Dr. Kenn Gordon

What a wonderful conference we had in Las Vegas. It was so nice to see so many of us in attendance and what a great lineup of inspirational speakers and workshops. I thought that almost everyone came away with a clearer understanding of our Strategic Plan and the supporting dashboard, as well as insight into our curriculum and education programs.

Tammi Tucker Events ManagerBy Tammi Kushner, Events Manager

From Surviving to Thriving was the theme of our 2015 Spiritual Living Convention, and what an amazing convention it turned out to be. We sold out!  People waited Youth meeting at covention 2015at the door to register. Our dynamic speakers provided creative and insightful ways to grow a sustainable spiritual community!

During the convention I had the opportunity to have lunch with individuals who will lead this organization into its future.  I met with members of the Teen Leadership and the Young Adult Leadership — what an awe-inspiring group. I never miss an opportunity to spend time with them.

Leadership Council News

Rev. David AlexanderBy Rev. David Alexander, Leadership Chair

Greetings,

What happens in Vegas, will change the world. At least that’s how I felt. How about you? Okay, I had to take a nap and drink some wheatgrass first, but now I’m ready! For those of you who joined us in Las Vegas, it was a magnificent and power-filled time. With deep, grateful hearts, the Leadership Council sang praises to our departing members, Dr. Heather Clark and Becky Moore, RScP, both of whom served the council with great love and integrity from the very beginning. Join me in thanking them again for their magnificent dedication to our organization.

Practitioner Council Update

Linda Jackson, RScPLinda Jackson, RScP
Welcome Your New Practitioner Chairperson

This is an exciting time for the Practitioner Council and I am honored to serve as the new chair! The energy of newness emerging through Centers for Spiritual Living was palpable in Las Vegas. It is with honor and appreciation of our organizational history that we burgeon into our greatest yet to be.

Practitioner Gathering

It is with the same honor and appreciation that we recognize Linda Watson, RScP Emeritus and Baji Daniels, RScP for their exceptional service as Practitioner Council Chair and Vice Chair, respectively. Their deep love and commitment to Centers for Spiritual Living and their dedication to serving on the Practitioner Council provided the foundation on which the newness will draw its strength.

As we say farewell to Baji and Linda, we welcomed more than 40 Practitioners to the Las Vegas Practitioner Gathering, providing opportunities for connecting with other Practitioners and collecting information to use as we set our Council intentions for the year. After the election, we ushered in our two new members, Kimberly Burgner and Ninoska Duenas, and immediately set to work with excitement about the skills they bring to our group.

Member Council Update

Layne Taylor, Chair Laity Council.By Layne Taylor, Chair

What an extraordinary time we had at the convention in Las Vegas! We learned, connected, created change and launched our council into the New Year with joy.

Member Council Table at convention 2015Our lobby table gave us a wonderful opportunity to connect with our Centers and expand our contact list. We had great fun with our prize drawings and giveaways. We are so grateful to the ministers and authors who donated prize items. Gratitude and energy just radiated from “Member Council Central.”

And wait — did I say “Member Council?” That’s right! Our ballot measure to change the name of our council from “Laity Council” to “Member Council” was approved by the convention delegates. We are pleased to move forward with a new and clearer way to designate those lay people in the congregations or communities who are not Ministers or Practitioners.

SPECIAL REPORTS…

From Global Services

It’s been a time of rapid evolution for Global Services. In the last several months we had a great deal of change in our membership. We express our gratitude to our retiring members, Rev. Monica Sandoval and Rev. Sheila Weldon, for their passion and dedication to our global communities. Please take a moment to get acquainted with the new body of the Global Services Committee by visiting http://globalservices.csl.org/about-us.html

A group of our members and Rev. Mark Gilbert met before the convention in Las Vegas to revisit our Strategic Plan. They’ve established a foundation for a renewed plan and will continue work with the whole group. The renewed plan is forthcoming.

We hosted a breakout session at the convention to report on global works and to discuss our Partnership Program. A pamphlet introducing our Partnership Program was also included in the convention registration packets. This program is a major focus for us. Our global communities consistently report that their greatest desire for support from North America is to have connection and to feel a sense of community with others in the world. The thrust of the Partnership Program is to link communities around the world to promote cultural exchange, community and individual prayer support, and other creative means of mutual support. There is more information on our Partnership Program on our web pages.

In Memoriam…The global work of Centers for Spiritual Living has recently experienced a profound loss. Rev. Jennie Goff, a tireless proponent of our philosophy in the world, made her transition last month. Jennie had been a significant energy for the advancement of Centers for Spiritual Living’s Spanish Language Ministry. More information on Jennie and her legacy is available at http://globalservices.csl.org/files/Tribute-to-Rev.-Jennie-Goff.pdf

Convention a Success for the Archives & Library!

The Science of Mind Archives & Library Foundation was honored to be a Bronze sponsor of the Rev. Dr. Marilyn Leomusic at the 2015 Spiritual Living Convention.  Board member and music organizer, Rev. Doug LeBow, did a magnificent job coordinating and creating the dynamic and deeply touching music shared by all, which included the whole group singing happy 80th birthday to Rev. Dr. Marilyn Leo.

The Archives  team truly enjoyed meeting so many people from the different Centers around the world, and sharing the vast resources that the Archives has to offer, including books on the history of Science of Mind personally autographed by Dr. Marilyn, and sharing the website — giving “live” tours of the resources available at the click of a mouse.

The Archives table at the coventiton 2015

Kathy Mastroianni, Archives and Library manager, had a great time connecting attendees with our past; learning more about history from people like Rev. Dr. Jay Scott Neale, and talking with Rev. Keith Cox and the Centers for Spiritual Living Youth Group. What great, dynamic energy — our future is in good hands!  Please check out the Archives website for updates on all our new projects and to sign up for our monthly eNewsletter www.somarchives.org and remember to “like” us on Facebook. www.facebook.com/ScienceOfMindArchivesAndLibraryFoundation.
