Racism in the United States

Centers for Spiritual Living calls for it to end!

We are grieving lives that ought not to have been lost. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, are the most recent in a list of countless unarmed African-American and Black people who have been murdered for the color of their skin over the past 400 years in the US. Too many generations have suffered and it has never been, and is not now, acceptable.

We denounce racism in all its forms: the starkness of unapologetic, intentional racism; the racism of silence in the face of injustice; the systemic racism inherent in our education, justice, income and opportunity inequity; and the racism that lies hidden in our individual hearts and minds. …more

Black lives matter – A Message from Rev. Dr. Edward Viljoen, Spiritual Leader

Centers for Spiritual Living stands with people all around the world who are advocating for justice, equity, inclusion, and peace. We are motivated by our vision of a world that works for everyone and, therefore, we affirm with the people of the world that Black lives matter. Not only do Black lives matter, but according to our teaching, they are sacred.

We have confidence that the momentum of support from individuals, along with, spiritual and secular organizations, is more than a fleeting moment, but rather the heralding of lasting change.

We have confidence that a new era of willingness to engage in the inner work that leads to the end of racism in our world has begun. …more

A Message from Dr. Kenn Gordon
Interfaith Sunday October 4, 2015

Interfaith Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate diversity and Oneness. It is an occasion to promote your Center holistically to a community that welcomes inclusivity, and honors all paths. As Centers for Spiritual Living, we are beautifully suited to do interfaith work because we live and teach Oneness.

We invite you, our colleagues along with your congregations, to embrace and participate in Interfaith Sunday 2015.

Here are a few easy ways to participate.

  • In your Sunday message, talk about the various ways different religions practice The Golden Rule.
  • Incorporate a practice from another faith tradition into your Sunday Service.
  • Invite a guest speaker to speak about their faith or culture.
  • Include music from different cultures.
  • Have an interfaith panel discussion of 3 to 5 people.
  • The panel may be your congregants who have come to Science of Mind from a different tradition.
  • Or your interfaith, intercultural friends.
  • Show an interfaith film after service.
  • Have the after service coffee hour feature international foods.
  • Showcase an interfaith intercultural reading during the service.

 CENTERS FOR SPIRITUAL LIVING™
SUPPORTS SUPREME COURT DECISION AFFIRMING MARRIAGE EQUALITY FOR ALL

Golden, CO (June 26, 2015) — Today, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a landmark decision when it ruled in support of same-sex marriage, and affirmed marriage equality for all. History has been made. This decision puts us one step closer to realizing the Centers for Spiritual Living’s vision of creating a world that works for all.

When we are all treated as equals, we are all free. In a world in which gay and lesbian couples live openly as our neighbors, as parents raising children and as loving and spiritual beings who contribute fully as members of our global community, it is simply untenable to suggest that they can be denied the right of equal participation in an institution of marriage. This decision by U.S. Supreme Court grants gay Americans all rights under the law, and the equal protection that they deserve.

Centers for Spiritual Living and Science of Mind communities have always embraced people of all walks of life, nationalities, faiths and sexual orientation. We celebrate and applaud this momentous moment in history.

“It’s always a banner day when right prevails over wrong; justice over injustice and truth prevails over ignorance,” said Rev. Dr. Kenn Gordon, Spiritual Leader for Centers for Spiritual Living. “Today evolution took a step in the right direction. It is a victory for the LGBTQ community. It is a victory for us all.”

Spiritual living magazine SCIENCE OF MIND
names Bishop Yvette Flunder its 2015 Spiritual Hero

GOLDEN, Colo., Dec. 3, 2014 – Pentecostal Bishop Yvette Flunder’s radically inclusive ministry that focuses on social justice has led her to be named Spiritual Hero of 2015 by SCIENCE OF MIND, the spiritual living magazine.

Flunder preaches a gospel message with a social justice focus. “I believe that justice is the prophetic work we are all called to do,” says the bishop, who spoke at the White House on Dec. 1st, which marked the 26th World AIDS Day.

“My high calling is serving those on the margins of life,” Flunder says, and she thanks God that she is a self-described “misfit”: a same-gender loving African American with Native American roots.

“It is time for us to be able to see God and good in all things, especially those that divide us,” says Flunder.

Each year, SCIENCE OF MIND magazine, which was started by New Thought luminary Dr. Ernest Holmes in 1927, honors individuals whose work exemplifies the magazine’s mission: to awaken individuals to their spiritual magnificence and create a world that works for everyone.

“Bishop Yvette is a powerful leader who shows up authentically whether ministering to a person living with AIDS or speaking to thousands,” says Rev. David Goldberg, publisher of SCIENCE OF MIND. “Her spiritually is bigger than names and labels and her philosophy is Oneness.”

Flunder joins the ranks of past SCIENCE OF MIND spiritual heroes, which include Dr. Maya Angelou, Oprah, Eckhart Tolle, Bono, Wayne Dyer and Louise Hay.
