Emerging in Oneness Peace Crane Sculpture

“Emerging in Oneness”
Peace Crane Sculpture Project

“Peace comes from the absence of fear, from a consciousness of trust, from a deep, underlying faith in the absolute goodness and mercy, the final integrity of the universe in which we live, and of every cause to which we give our thought, our time and our attention.”

Centers for Spiritual Living Home Office Peace Crane

As the world began to emerge out of the global pandemic of 2020, Centers for Spiritual Living contemplated a way that the organization could honor both the great collaborative spirit of CSL Member Communities and the passage through this tender time in our history. During a meditation in the Hefferlin Chapel at the CSL Home Office, the concept of a moving sculpture of birds in flight began to form. Local CSL Member Community, Mile Hi Church, has a renowned Peace Crane Ministry and it seemed fitting to share the vision with them. The Peace Crane Team, aka “The Craniologists,” came to visit the CSL Home Office building in Golden, Colorado to map out the concept.

Emerging in Oneness, the CSL Peace Crane Sculpture was created using re-purposed paper from the pages of the Centers for Spiritual Living 2020 Spiritual Journal – an annual journal used by CSL community members to follow the unified monthly and weekly themes throughout the year. Each crane holds the intention of Science of Mind principles and philosophy as a purposeful design. Every CSL Member Community is represented by its own peace crane amongst the 1,000 cranes contained in the sculpture.

Each crane was folded with intention and care by the Mile Hi Peace Crane Team. A single crystal bead was added to the string that suspends each of the 1,000 cranes in the atrium of the CSL Home Office. The cranes were then attached, one by one, to a suspended transparent netting below the atrium skylights using extended fishing poles to give the illusion of forward movement along the open space.

This time lapse video gives an idea of the process that was used to create this sculpture:

On Friday, July 16, 2021, the Emerging in Oneness Peace Crane Sculpture will be unveiled at the Centers for Spiritual Living Home Office in Golden, Colorado. This 1,000 piece, suspended sculpture honors the continued inspiration and hope of all Centers for Spiritual Living Member Communities from around the world as we emerge, together, from the global pandemic of COVID-19. Each Center, Focus Ministry, Teaching Chapter, Study Group and Spiritual Living Circle is individually represented by their own peace crane — uniting us as One.
